#1 Tip for Overcoming Any Challenge: Be Good with Yourself
Got a life problem? The #1 best thing you can do is this: be good with yourself.
What does that mean?
It means you can answer yes to these questions in relation to the problem:
- I know or can figure out what I need
- I am able to feel my feelings, process them, and let them go
- I have resources within and in my network to help me handle this, or I can reach out to ask for them
- I take care of myself (physically, mentally, emotionally) first so I have the energy to address the challenge
- I know I’m doing my best, even when it seems like I’m making mistakes or failing
- I accept my strengths and limitations in handling the situation
- I’m not afraid to ask for help
- I have methods for handling stress, anxiety and worry while dealing with the challenge
- I can do this because I’ve faced other challenges before and gotten through
Life is always going to throw problems at us, that’s the nature of the beast. But if you can be good with yourself, you’re in a strong position to weather the challenges.
Being good with yourself means you have a solid center inside. A place where you feel comfortable and comforted. A place of ease and inner knowledge that you can handle this, even if you don’t know how right now, or what the outcomes will be.
It might just be a feeling of ease, and comfort, and support. It might look like an actual place. Like having a favorite comfy spot, right inside your head. Imagine the most cozy of places – a bed loaded with pillows and blankets, a couch by the fire, a hammock by the lake, a window seat overlooking the fields. Imagine yourself there, as you work through the challenge.
For me, being good with myself feels like having a rock solid friend inside, someone who has my back and will support me no matter what the situation calls for. It’s like having a resource center to visit when something comes up. A library of personal knowledge and information that I can rely on.
You know yourself the best; you can be that rock solid center for yourself. It might take some shifting of beliefs, to align with the questions up above. But when you are good with you, there’s nothing that can throw you off your center. And you can always find a way through a problem or challenge.
That doesn’t mean it’ll be smooth, or easy, and it doesn’t mean you have to do it all by yourself. It just means that you’re taking action from a centered and balanced place, not overwhelmed by fear and stress.
So, are you good with you? Which questions can you say yes to and which are no? I’d love to hear.
